On Saturday, September 18, SCAD Atlanta Radio held its first ever concert event, titled, “Music in the Sky.” Students enjoyed an evening on the roof of the SCAD parking deck, accompanied by the music of three DJs, a performance by the dance group Royal Flush, food, prizes and games — including a giant inflatable Twister.

Students and guests danced to the beats of DJs Vexta, Heart Disease and J-String. Royal Flush performed a choreographed dance early in the evening as well as freestyled with others later on. As the sun set, the radio station staff provided glow sticks to entertain students and add flair to the event.

Richard Corbett, a sculpture transfer student, observed, “it is … more exciting than I thought it was going to be. Dinesh and Eric have done a phenomenal job.” SCAD Atlanta Radio staff involved in organizing “Music in the Sky” included General Manager Eric Beatty, Production Director Robby White, Music Director Dylan Fagan and Promotions Director Dinesh Dave, a.k.a. DJ Vexta.

As the first event of its kind held at SCAD Atlanta, “Music in the Sky” was successful in providing great music, fun and a way to get involved in SCAD Atlanta Radio. Rachel Banks, a first year fashion design student, exclaimed, “I didn’t expect there to be glow sticks and everything. It’s awesome. The music is good, too.” Several students affirmed that they would attend future Radio events.

General Manager Beatty commented that the radio station would like the keep “Music in the Sky” as an annual event “and then have concerts planted throughout the year.” While SCAD Atlanta Radio has attracted several students with this fun-filled concert, their main goal was to get students involved. Music Director Fagan asserted, “I think [students] should know that this is an opportunity to be part of something that is run by students and that SCAD Atlanta Radio is made by students. Everyone should be interested … because it’s being part of a big family.” For more information about SCAD Atlanta Radio, visit their website.
