Jennifer Hartshorn, new Writers’ Studio Coordinator, earned her stripes at Wesleyan University in Connecticut where she received her degree in English and medieval studies. From there, she was offered a job at White Wolf Publishing where she worked as a game designer on Vampire: The Masquerade and Wraith: The Oblivion. Hartshorn has also worked in corporate communications and academia. She credits her unique background for her success in her role at SCAD, “I feel like everything I have done has led me here.”

Hartshorn helps students with essays, artist statements, outlining and documentation styles.

“The Writers’ Studio is here to work at any step of the writing process,” Hartshorn said. “When students come in with a paper the first thing I do is put it aside and say, ‘Tell me what your paper is about.’ A lot of the time what people say and what they write isn’t necessarily the same thing. I try and make sure that I have a sense for what their intention is and then help them execute it.”

Hartshorn shares her passion for writing with the SCAD community. While Hartshorn is dedicated to helping students improve their writing, she reminds that the Writers’ Studio is not a proofreading service, “It’s much more of a dialogue. I’m working with the student to improve instead of just marking up their paper and giving it back to them.”

The Writers’ Studio offers one-on-one consultations on any writing-related endeavor once a week by appointment. In addition, faculty can also contact the Writer’s Studio to schedule in class presentations.
