If you’ve never heard of Shinobi Ninja or Shana Falana, now is the time to get familiar. The two bands, both hailing from Brooklyn, N.Y., will play live at SCADshow on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The show is free and open to all SCAD Atlanta students who present a valid student ID.

SCADshow’s doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. SCAD Atlanta Residence Life, Student Media and the Student Activities Council are hosting the event. Also, residence life is arranging shuttle transportation so that students can catch a free ride to and from the venue.

Headliner Shinobi Ninja, named in part after a classic videogame, is an up-and-coming rock six-piece known for high-energy performances and a unique blend of punk and hip-hop. “Music is music, and good music is good music,” vocalist Duke “D.A.” Sims told SCAD Atlanta Radio’s Britt Lyle. “I’ve been hearing the Four Tops since I was a little kid, so to go from the Four Tops to the Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson … it’s all the same thing, because it’s all coming from that beat.” With such a diverse range of influences, it’s easy to see where Shinobi Ninja’s eclectic sound comes from.

Opening act Shana Falana, a dream-pop duo made up of vocalist and guitarist Shana Falana and drummer Mike Amari, is not to be overlooked. Their debut LP, “Set Your Lightning Fire Free,” came out in April of this year. The ten-track album is a shoegaze gem, with Falana’s ethereal voice stealing the show more often than not. Shana Falana’s music is catchy, hypnotic and soothing in a way that hard-working art students can surely appreciate. And the band is excited to put on an unforgettable show: in fact, they’ve created a one-of-a-kind backing video just for the occasion, inspired by SCADshow itself. “Our music is very atmospheric, so the imagery is very atmospheric,” Falana told Lyle, promising a trip for both the eyes and the ears.
