The world’s largest gaming event is this weekend, and it’s right here at SCAD Atlanta. Global Game Jam begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26 and runs until 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28 at the Digital Media Center.

This event is focused on game development and the growth of ideas. Meet like-minded gaming enthusiasts, students and professors from other universities, and industry professionals at the two-day event.

David Spencer, an interactive and game design professor at SCAD Atlanta, said, “I tell students not to pull all-nighters, with one possible exception: Global Game Jam. Participation in Global Game Jam teaches you about collaboration, working efficiently and managing the scope of a project. Friday at 5 p.m. we announce the theme, and then participants with a wide variety of interests and talents gather in groups to start brainstorming game concepts. They then proceed to create playable prototypes by Sunday at 5 p.m.”

Participants may pick their team in advance or assemble one when they arrive. Game designers, animators and illustrators, sound designers and more are all encouraged to attend, regardless of experience level.

The event is free for SCAD students and alumni and $25 for the gaming public.
