Another summer blockbuster released and  “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” did not fail to meet its box office expectations. However, this film didn’t quite capture the audience’s hearts like the previous installments in the series. “Fallen Kingdom” is a direct sequel to the 2015 film “Jurassic World,” the film that revisited Isla Nublar and the audience’s favorite dinosaurs that should be extinct but aren’t. “Fallen Kingdom” picks up three years later, bringing back Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen (Chris Pratt) in order to save the dinosaurs from a potential re-extinction after the dormant volcano on Isla Nublar becomes active.

The film was most definitely an action-packed thriller, making audiences jump at every turn. Though the plot was almost predictable, writer’s Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow managed to throw in some shocking developments that tied up loose ends from the 1993 original film “Jurassic Park.” The film also brought back Jeff Goldblum reprising his role of Ian Malcolm from the original 1993 film, where he yet again attempts to warn the world of the consequences of toying with life. The rescue operation that Owen and Claire embark on in “Fallen Kingdom,” like always, never goes as planned. Greed and corruption follow the dinosaurs as certain people want to use and exploit them, thinking of them as tools rather than animals.

Stunning visuals and seamless character design of the dinosaurs made this film as terrifyingly realistic as “Jurassic World,” and even seemed to bring it up another level. The acting of the main cast was thrilling to see, making the story even more convincing. Though heavy in the jump scares, comedy and love are still woven in the plot.

However, following along the original trilogy, “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic World” prove to be better on their own and without sequels. “Fallen World” mimics the question of human and dinosaur relationships that the first trilogy explored. The plot follows closely the sequel of “Jurassic Park,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” that was released in 1997. In the film, Goldblum reprised his role as the protagonist reluctantly leading a small expedition to observe and document the dinosaurs. Leaving the world questioning the acceptance of dinosaurs in the modern world. “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic World” were so amazing because they were both innovative and brought the story to a whole new level. All of the sequels have dealt with the consequences left behind after the chaos, but don’t evolve into much more.

“Fallen Kingdom” does explore the relationship of humans and dinosaurs even more than any of the previous films. The major plot of the film follows the characters as they must decide whether or not dinosaurs deserve protection and rights, or if they should revert back to natural extinction. It question the boundaries of science and life, deciding fate, evolvolution and acceptance.

All in all, “Fallen Kingdom” is an exciting film for those who love the series, story and a million jump scares. “Jurassic World” is a trilogy, with the third film set to premier June 2021 — hopefully with an evolutionary storyline.
