The Cannes Film Festival is one of the biggest film festivals in the world. Celebrities, including actors, directors, producers and influencers all arrive in Cannes, France to celebrate upcoming movies. The festival is incredibly prestigious and over the last couple of years, we have seen it also turn into the fashion event of the summer. There are multiple red carpets, press events and parties give make everyone the opportunity to bring their best glamour game. The outfits are usually over-the-top and this year was no different. Here are some trends we saw on the carpet that could be making their way into mainstream fashion in the next year.

WHITE BUTTON-DOWN WITH STATEMENT SKIRT

International supermodel Taylor Hill looked effortlessly chic in her dressed-down elegance look. She tied up a simple button-down shirt with a fun green and yellow high-low skirt, then finished the look with some elegant jewelry and some classic, sparkly, strapped heels. This trend was also sported by other celebrities and is a really easy way to make a more formal look more casual. It can be translated into your daily fashion by wearing sneakers with a formal dress, or adding fancier jewelry to a simple outfit. Mix casual and formal elements to have a unique look that screams elegance.

HEAD-TO-TOE GLITTER

An outfit covered in bling, embellishment and glitter has been a staple on every red carpet this past year. I love that this trend is coming back because the carpets were getting a little boring with only solid colors. To translate this to your closet, wear a full little look with simple makeup and jewelry to keep the look fresh and modern. Pairing a solid color with glitter is also a great way to make the outfit more casual.

STATEMENT SUITS

The suits worn by men and women during this festival were some of the best I have seen in a long time. The classic, well-fitted black suit will always hold a very special place in my heart, but the suits at Cannes were a breath of fresh air. Timothée Chalamet looked futuristic and summery in his rose-gold and gold suit, paired with white boots and a white shirt. On the other hand, Josh O’Conner showed how good pink can look on a man with a relaxed suit from Loewe. The girls did not shy away from the suit either, with Tilda Swinton wearing a double-vested pink vest with an orange skirt. Celebrities embraced the French coastal feel and had fun, with an otherwise more understated look.

BLUSH TONES

Blush tones were huge on this year’s carpet, from Josh’ O Connor’s suit to Gemma Chan’s Valentino ensemble. Blush was very popular during the early 2010s and it is now back with a new twist. The blush tones were worn in a more monochromatic manner. Most celebrities wore nude or matching accessories with the look, rather than a contrasting piece. I love that this color is making its comeback and I cannot wait to see its popularity rise in a much newer way.

Red carpet fashion is always a great indicator as to what is coming next in the world of fashion. Cannes proves to be one of the best red carpet events to bring about trends and unique takes on fashion. I hope that these trends above can give you inspiration for your next look!
