As SCAD slowly builds back up after the setbacks that were caused by COVID, the resurgence of student-led communities are finally back on the rise! Fall Fest 2022 was held on October 6th at the FORTY terrace, featuring many school organizations either run by the faculty or students. We recently got the opportunity to talk to all the tables at the Fest. Here are all the student-led organizations you might be interested in joining and what you can expect from them.

SCAN & The Connector are the student media coverage here at SCAD Atlanta.

“We post SCAN, our school’s quarterly magazines and an online newspaper, The Connector. We’re currently looking for contributors for both of these publications. If you’re interested in getting in touch with us, you can check us out on our Instagrams, @scadscan and @scadconnector.”

SCAD ATL Esports Club fosters an environment for competitive gaming in SCAD Atlanta.

“We host large tournaments for people on campus, weekly practice, and competitive events in games like Super Smash Bros, League of Legends, etc. If you’re interested in joining us, you can join our Discord or come meet us at 3PM at the DMC every Friday!”

We host workshops, guest speakers, competitions, peer critiques, network events and more! If you’re interested, you can sign up on our Slack and follow our Instagram.”

SCAD Writers Club is a community for writers.

“It’s a way to connect all writers to embrace and enhance the art of writing and create a supportive and comfortable community for them. We focus a lot on bonding and support, since the writing major is so small, and we host a lot of get-togethers! For now, you can email vsaval21@student.scad.edu, or follow us on Instagram, if you’re interested in joining!”

SCAD Yarn Barn is a club for crochet, knitting, embroidering and anything yarn related.

“We teach everybody from beginners and advanced people and we just really want to create a good learning experience. We can teach you how to make hats, plushies, but we’re also here to guide you on how to price your commissions and how to run your own crochet-related business! You can sign up on the sheet in our Instagram.

The Indian Bee Collective is the Indian club at SCAD.

“We’re not only for Indian students but for everyone, we want to share our culture with every other culture and celebrate events so that when Indian students are away from home they can feel more at home here! We’re planning to meet bi-weekly because big events are coming up and we are looking for volunteers as we’re doing it on a bigger scale. You can help us with a few positions at the club or just be a member and attend the events and have fun! You can DM us on Instagram @ibc_scad!”

SCAD Latinx Club celebrates Latinx Culture.

“Anyone is welcome to join if you want to be an active ally. We’re a new club and we really want to connect all the Latinos here at SCAD! And if you are a non-Latino but your family members are and you want to learn more about your heritage or you have Latino friends, you can join our events too, so anyone is welcome as we want to have more of a view of South America, Central America and the Caribbean in SCAD. We plan on doing meetings but they will not be as regular as our events so you will definitely be getting a lot of emails on events that we are planning on doing and we will be very active on social media. You can expect fundraiser opportunities, volunteer opportunities and many surprises! The quickest and easiest way to join is to DM our Instagram @scadlatinxclub!”

SCAD Interior Design Organization (IDO) is a community for interior designers.

“We help students get connected with industry representatives and hold industry event tours, professional portfolio reviews, etc. You’ll get weekly emails telling you what’s going on with different organizations like IIDA, ASID and other professional interior design organizations so it’s students and industry professionals. There are also a lot of volunteer opportunities where students get to go and connect with the industry. We also host 3 events a quarter ourselves so that you can develop your professional skills within the scope. You can follow us on our Instagram @scadatlido to get in touch and receive updates!”

SCAD Flux Club is the UX design club in Atlanta.

“We help students build their network through attending workshops and 1-on-1 conversations with the industry and we have a few companies on board such as Google and Airbnb. We’ll soon have workshops for resume portfolio building. We’re also going to also come up with cooperation events where groups of friends and classmates and participate in competitions and fix their startup ideas that can get recognized in the industry and also get good cash prizes. Expect tons of workshops and events within the club and also our partners within the industry to help people expand their skill sets and meet like-minded people. We have a Discord and an Instagram if you guys want to know more about us!”

We have fellowship nights, so if you are not Christian feel free to come to those! We also do fun festive things like pumpkin carving just to get to know people and honestly, we are just here for the SCAD community so if you are struggling with something you can reach out to us and we’ll be praying for you. We also send you inspirational quotes every day to just keep you on track! You can join by going to our Instagram @scadatl_cru!”

The Black Student Association is a safe community for Black students to be themselves.

“Our club is about not only bringing black students together on campus but also creating an environment of expression and comfort and a way for them to express their own cultures, since the black diaspora is very diverse, so that’s a huge part of our BSA. We have typically 2 meetings every quarter and at least 1 event, we also have different activities planned. You can sign up using this form and we have a Linktree on our Instagram with all the information you need!”
