Atlanta Braves

What started as a childhood dream became reality for Nick Loy, senior in motion media, after he landed a job with the Braves this past summer. Loy works as a freelance contract designer and has demonstrated exemplar abilities through his latest productions. He is working on the animations for the video shoot that Braves are doing for their spring training sessions, focused on the backgrounds for their promotional videos, which will be shown on the stadium.

According to Loy, the journey began in his sophomore year after he took the initiative to go on LinkedIn and search for the creative director of the Braves, Insung Kim, and their professional relationship started with a request to connect. Loy shot his shot and Kim accepted the request, then emailed him the following day, asking if he’d be available for a phone call. Loy said they talked about how to make it in the industry, how to stand out and find opportunities, and this conversation turned out to be the first of many. Over the years, they messaged back and forth whenever Loy had questions or ideas related to their industry, and this consistency made Kim realize there was a young candidate willing to work.

This past summer, Kim messaged Loy again and offered him an internship at a company based in the NFL. He accepted, and it soon became a paid internship, where Loy excelled for eight months until he decided to move on to something else. Kim was informed by a connection of his that Loy had left the company, and thus reached out to him and asked why, to which Loy replied that it just wasn’t the right fit for him.

Despite that, Kim said there was an opening for a freelance contract designer in his team, as he knew the kind of talent and hard work that Loy could bring to the table, and this was an offer Loy couldn’t reject. He’s been working with Kim ever since, living the dream that his younger self would have never believed, and this is just the start of his career as a professional.
