The “Photographer of the Week” series is dedicated to highlighting photographers within the SCAD community that demonstrate unique abilities behind the lens. This week, Antonia Cordo shares her recent photo series, some of her past favorites, and the inspiration behind her work.

How did you get your start with photography?
I started experimenting with photography my freshman year of high school. I was able to use my school’s resources to shoot simple projects and experiment with photo editing. We had a small photo studio that allowed me to experiment with fun portraiture and lighting which directed me towards my recent style of work.

What made you choose to pursue a career in photography?
When I began experimenting with photography, I began to think more creatively and found inspiration through everyday life. I love being able to express whatever I want through such a fast medium. I can achieve a lot in a small amount of time which allows me more flexibility to experiment.

What drew you to SCAD Atlanta?
I have family near Atlanta and grew to love spending time in the city. I tried a quarter in Savannah but I missed the creative inspiration that I got from living in the fast-paced city. There are creatives everywhere you go and plenty of interesting people to grab inspiration from. I’ve loved my experience working with different artists in Atlanta and exploring different places to shoot and collaborate.

What’s your biggest inspiration for your art?
My biggest inspiration is probably editorial photography. I love being able to express a feeling through a photo that isn’t necessarily a direct reflection of that sensation. I’m able to create stories and personalities that I can bring to life. It allows me to share a view into my imagination.

What’s your biggest career goal?
I don’t know what exactly I want to end up doing because photography is such a broad field. I’d love to create concert photography with some of my favorite artists. I’ve also always dreamed of having one of my portraits in a fashion or art magazine/website like Vogue. I draw a lot of inspiration from the creative editorial portraits in Vogue magazines.

Do you have any future plans you can share with us?
Right now my plans for my work are to keep trying new things and styles of work. I’ve been interested in some sort of multi-medium work so I’d love to play around with that. I just can’t wait to continue to collaborate with other students and creatives.
