The Connector

Photography is usually one of the go-to art forms that a lot of us find interest in. For the most part, nature is our first muse, fulfilled with inspiration and beauty. Our next muse may be consistent with a close friend or family member until we move on to models. One of the concerns with moving forward to different subjects is, “how do you light them?”

Lighting subjects can be difficult when you are beginning your journey into the vast world of photography. A common practice would be to go on YouTube or find a SCAD professor to aid your process. However, inspiration from other artists can be a huge benefit too. In this project, Ashley Trawinski and Xavier Thompson devised a plan to demonstrate what jewelry-based photography should look like.

On the same note, I followed up with Trawinski, one of the photographers, about the motive behind this project. Here’s what she had to say:

“For this project, we were given a brief by our professor to shoot a jewelry photoshoot as if we were photographing for the brand Wolf Circus. We had to follow their guidelines but add our own interpretations for it as well. This project resonates with me since the overall images capture a mood of intimacy with the model and the jewelry that she is wearing since it is her personal jewelry that is accessories to her body, a way of self-expression. Through the close-ups and medium shots, the viewer is able to catch a glimpse of the form and shapes of the jewelry on the model creating images that would motivate the viewer to purchase these items.”
