Filmmaking can be a very tedious process for anyone, especially high-caliber students that attend SCAD. It involves sound design, editing, visuals, and organization. With all those aspects, including more requiring deep focus, and persistence, one student has provided Atlanta and the SCAD community with a persona that will generate a smile on your face and a laugh every single day.

Not only do her videos provide an amazing sense of entertainment and insight into her life, but her interview responses also paint a unique picture for her current and future audience.

How would you describe the personality of Colette?

Colette is crazy-fun, personable and individualistic, but crazy funny.

What inspired you to start your journey in the film industry?

To be honest, I felt like it was the only thing I could be successful at. I was fearful of putting myself out there and being a comedian, but it was the industry I felt like I had the most potential in. It was a skill that came naturally to me, even though I feared my potential.

What would you say is your strongest/ most interesting project so far as a filmmaker?

My strongest work was Colette Hot Takes. I was sitting in a janky hot tub in the middle of LA. It was terrifying but I knew it had to be done and ultimately it turned out to be an amazing experience. It gave me a sense of what I needed to do moving forward. I created graphics, special effects, fixing audio. Adding the extra layers and growing the level of comedy that I aspire my videos to be.

Do you credit anyone as inspiration for your work?

Yes, I credit Trixie Mattel and Katya, Joan Rivers, Chelsea Hamler, Billy Eichner all as major influences for my ability to create projects.

What equipment is most important to your process and if it could talk, how would it describe you?

I’d say my camera and it would say that I’m crazy fun, personable yet individualistic. Also, judging my comedic skills, it might throw in a shady comment. and say “At least she‘s trying.”

Where can new audience members find your content/ projects?

I’m on Instagram and YouTube

What current project(s) are you working/ what can people look forward to experiencing?

I’m working on another episode release on my channel coming soon and you can look forward to a comical yet ironic take on me going through a creative adventure. This is definitely a full scope of who I am. It’s going to look damn professional as hell. “Have fun laughing at me and with me. Any attention is good attention hunny.”

How does SCAD play a role into your success as a filmmaker?

I think SCAD is a tool and if you use it properly it can be of the utmost benefit to you. But that’s with anything. I’m so glad that I’m here and it’s an amazing tool. If you’re networking in classes, attending Q&As, and growing relationships with your professors, then you’ll be set. Even if you don’t know who you are or even what you want to do in life, just be impulsive and try something and SCAD is a great place to do that.

Is there any advice you’d like to leave with other aspiring filmmakers?

You need to pursue your passion even if you don’t have a huge team behind you.

If you have an idea, execute it. Even if you don’t have the resources, you’ll learn through the process. Learn something.

At the end of the day you should be ecstatic to learn and create.
